RIO RANCHO, N.M. - (12/08/04) -- An arrest of a local man who triedto cash a stolen check last week at New Mexico Educators CU has ledpolice to a local counterfeit check ring. After his arrest, thesuspect told police he was given the check by his neighbors, who hesaid made false checks and identification on their home computer.Police raided the neighbor's home and confiscated concealed checks,check making equipment, computers, software, disks, scanners anddigital cameras. Also confiscated were hundreds of checks,checkbooks, bank statements, birth certificates and Social Securitycards.
