OSHKOSH, Wis. - (09/29/04) -- One local elementary school will nowdisplay a life-size lion sculpture, thanks to the charity ofCommunity First CU. The credit union won the lion, one of 33 beingauctioned off to benefit the arts, with a bid of $13,000 during theLion Ball at the Grand Opera House last Saturday, then donated thefiberglass feline to the Carl Traeger School. The lion was one ofthree sponsored by the credit union at a cost of $3,500 each. Allof the lions have been displayed around town through the summer.The more than $250,000 in proceeds expected from the event will goto benefit the Arts Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation,the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Foundation and the Paine ArtCenter and Gardens for artist residencies.
