PERTH, AUSTRALIA -
The card, financial products and services provider Indue, is one of several unique designs being launched in Australia this spring. Others by CreditLink include a card with the image of a lunging, wide-mouth crocodile and an image of a half-open zipper.
CreditLink, which provides service to about 50 financial institutions across Australia, said designer cards are more distinctive and fashionable that traditional products.
"Like cars, the look and feel of a card can be a natural extension of our personality, and influence our loyalty to that product," Chief executive Officer Manuel Garcia reportedly told The Age, a Fairfax newspaper. "Research shows consumers are more likely to pull out the card that is right for the occasion or will be a talking point amongst friends."
Consumer groups warn that while image might be fun, a card's invisible aspects-joining and annual fees, additional charges and interest rates-should be the ultimate arbiter.
