EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Credit union members in two different parts of the country have been receiving fraudulent automated calls on their cell phones claiming their debit and/or credit cards had been compromised.
Members of Royal Credit Union who received the calls were told their cards had been blocked or even deactivated, and that they should enter their PINs to resolve the problem. In RCU’s case, all the calls went to members whose phone numbers began with 577. RCU has indicated that at least a few members were fooled by the scam and entered their PINs.
In Whitefish, Mont., meanwhile, some members of Whitefish Credit Union also received automated calls saying their cards had been compromised and requesting personal information.
