Bandits Hit Philly CU For $239K On New Year's

Authorities were hunting last week for three men who stormed into Sentry CU just before New Year's Eve and made off with an estimated $239,000, one of the biggest-ever CU robberies.

The three men, all armed and wearing ski masks, entered the credit union around 12:40 p.m. on Dec. 31 and ordered all employees and members to the ground. While two guarded the doors, the third rifled through the teller drawers, then forced a teller at gunpoint to open the vault. The three left with several bags of cash, including the bait bag, but the red dye explosive in the bag was not activated.

The robbers fled east on foot. FBI spokesperson Linda Vizi said last week they were pursuing several leads in the case.
