American Bank announced in August that it was planning to close the branch and Friday it announced the sale of the building to the credit union. As a result, Central Hanna Employees, which has served Keetac mine employees for 55 years, has decided to pursue a community charter and expand beyond its 740 members.

Operations at the Keewatin branch of American Bank will cease Nov. 30, and Central Hanna plans to open its new location on Dec. 3.
