Bethpage FCU Urges Consumers To ‘Fire Your Bank’

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Bethpage FCU has launched an interactive marketing campaign that tells consumers, “It’s time to give your bank a pink slip.”

Consumers can create and print out a pink slip saying, “You’re fired! Here’s why.”

As part of a multi-faceted marketing campaign, the $4 billion credit union launched an interactive micro site, www.freecheckingforlongisland.com, inviting Long Islanders to voice their frustrations about the big banks’ addition of new fees on their existing checking accounts.

The site includes links to relevant news stories, details about Bethpage Bonus Checking – Bethpage’s new free checking account launched this past summer – and motivational information to help encourage consumers to fight back.

The new site explains that Bethpage Bonus Checking is completely free. It features no monthly service or maintenance fees, no minimum balance requirement, no per check charges, free VISA Check card, free online and mobile banking, and free online bill pay.  Plus, it offers an added bonus of 1% interest for each month the member meets basic transactional requirements.

When members sign up for online banking with e-statements, arrange for monthly direct deposit into their account, and have 15 point-of-sale debit card transactions per month, they will automatically earn interest each month with their Bethpage Bonus Checking account. Long Islanders have the opportunity to earn interest with every new month. If transactional requirements are not met to earn interest for a particular month, there is no penalty, and the account is still completely free.
