DENVER – A police bomb squad robot named TNT, using a water cannon, "rendered a black backpack harmless" shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday after it was left by a man who robbed the White Crown FCU downtown.

Police initially were told by witnesses that the man said the backpack contained a bomb.
As many as 100 people were evacuated from the credit union and the Denver courts that occupy the floors directly above the credit union. The courts were canceled for the rest of the day.
After the bomb squad arrived, a bomb technician clad in a heavy green suit entered the building. After he emerged, the robot was sent in and shot water onto the backpack.
A suspect in the incident was arrested later yesterday afternoon in a downtown bar.
