The $3 billion credit union opened one branch in Vero Beach last month and has started construction on additional facilities in Viera and Miami Springs. Plans also call for the relocation of branches in Doral, Vero Beach, Ryanwood and Port St. John, part of an overall branch strategy to improve member convenience.

The makeover comes a year after Space Coast transferred six branches in the Tampa area it had acquired in the 2009 merger of failed Eastern Financial Florida CU to MidFlorida CU.

“SCCU understands that our members are busy and we value their time,” said Heather Hickman, vice president of retail branch administration for Space Coast. “We want to serve members where it’s convenient for them to bank, on their way home from work or while they’re running errands.”
