SAN JOSE, Calif. – A man believed to have robbed as many as five area financial institutions, including Meriwest CU last Thursday, was captured by police.

In less than 24 hours, on Wednesday and Thursday, the suspected is believed to have robbed the Meriwest branch and a Santa Clara County National Bank branch–both in San Jose.
The suspect, dubbed the “Broken Nose Bandit” because of a large, and sometimes bloody, bulbous nose, was stopped in a parked car and arrested after he met the description of the robber. After he was handcuffed, the suspect tried to escape but he was tackled by officers.
The suspect, identified as Robert McCrary, 44, was on parole for manslaughter.
