SAN JOSE, Calif. – A husky man believed to have robbed as many as five area banks in the last six weeks is believed to have hit the Meriwest CU branch here yesterday morning.

In each robbery the suspect changes his appearance; one time he wore a baseball cap and a hooded sweatshirt, but his large bulbous nose–sometimes bloody–always stands out to witnesses and security cameras, earning him the nickname the Broken Nose Bandit.
When he robbed the credit union he pulled out a gun, the first time he has brandished a weapon during a hold-up. He demanded money and walked away with a pile of cash and a loaded cash box, according to police.
