LYNN, Mass. – Brotherhood CU yesterday said it is partnering with the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless to help 29 local households pay for heating costs during February.
The households being targeted are very low income, many of which are a paycheck away from being homeless.
The households targeted for fuel assistance will be identified by the coalition’s First Stop program, which provides homeless prevention services at the Lynn Community Health Center.
Gas prices are rising as a large swath of consumers are already under pressure, which could eventually affect demand for credit.
The share of American households considered "financially vulnerable" rose to 17%, the highest level since at least 2018, according to the nonprofit Financial Health Network.
