SAN FRANCISCO-The California and Nevada CU Leagues are reducing the fees of their educational efforts and conferences.
"We certainly know credit unions are cutting costs right now," said Mark Klinkert, SVP of professional development, and COO. "This year's spring conference has been retooled to drive costs down. Registration has been reduced by 15%."
Last year, the fee to attend the conference was more than $800 per person, Klinkert said. This year the fee is $699 per person, or $4,100 for groups of six or more from the same CU.
The primary way the league was able to reduce that fee was by paring back on celebrity-name speakers, Klinkert said. In their place, will bethey will have well-known economists and other financial professionals, including key leaders from state and regulating organizations. "The conference will be just as good as in the past," he said.
The league is also offering a "wide array of educational conferences," Klinkert said, including webinars, which do not require any travels fees, and many people can participate in the webinar from the same room for one fee: $179 per CU. "Last year we had 60 webinars," he said. "This year we will have 100."
