COLONIE, N.Y. – Capital Communications FCU’s plans to construct a four-story office building on the site of a former auto dealership got concept approval from the Colonie planning board Tuesday night.
The $900-million credit union is building on a site that had been contaminated by a previous owner, and although at least some of that contamination has been removed, some remains. A plan to leave soil undisturbed in some parts of the site was questioned by a local attorney, who also pointed out the site is considered archeologically significant.
The new building will be Capital Communications’ new headquarters, consolidating other locations the credit union currently has. The building will have 154 employees when it opens.
