Catholic FCU Tops $1 Million Mark In Scholarships

SAGINAW, Mich. – Catholic FCU awarded a total of $143,600 in scholarships to 300 students this year, topping the $1 million mark in college grants.

The credit union’s Monsignor Forbes Scholarship Fund was founded in 1982 to honor Eugene A. Forbes.

Although the awards were smaller in the beginning of the scholarship, the board has been giving about $100,000 each year to about 300 students. More than 2,000 students have received awards toward their educations.

The students can take the money to fund any type of higher education, including trade schools, colleges and universities, and seminary. Recipients are selected based on grade point average, financial need, community involvement and education goals, the credit union said. Students do not have to go to a Catholic school to receive the scholarship.
