MADISON, Wis.-Despite being recently elected as the new CUNA Board Chair, Pat Wesenberg isn't expecting much to change in her day-to-day life.
Wesenberg said she has "good support from my credit union board and my staff" at Central City CU in Marshfield, Wis., where she is CEO.
She discussed her new duties with the staff and the board, and she said that none of them expect her new CUNA duties to detract from her involvement with CCCU.
"When you're in a management position, basically your job is to keep everyone motivated and to keep the strategic plan on track and make sure that all the deadlines are being met," she said.
Wesenberg estimated that she won't spend more than 20 or 25 days out of the office because of CUNA duties, noting that much of what she'll need to do can be accomplished on Friday afternoons or Saturdays. Wesenberg is married, with adult children and grandchildren, and she noted that she's better able to dedicate that kind of time to her job than she might be if she were still raising a family.
Technology Helps
Wesenberg has been involved with CUNA's executive committee for several years and had to travel for that, so she's used to logging those hours on the road.
"It'll be an extremely busy year, but I have a credit union to run and that's my primary job-that definitely takes precedence," said Wesenberg. "With technology as it is today, you can communicate from just about anywhere. You can track work processes and manage pretty easily. I have a great team, so I anticipate it will be pretty much business as usual."
