HANFORD, Wash. -- A 21-year-old man who tried to pass a counterfeit $11,000 check at FAST CU was arrested last week after taking a swing at a police officer who confronted him.
Police apprehended Kenneth Ellis, 21, minutes after he fled the credit union.
Ellis had come in to the credit union and tried to cash an $11,000 check made out to himself, according to police. Clerks at the credit union said they thought his story seemed strange, and called police to come investigate. But when an officer went to speak with Ellis, he turned and threw a punch at him, police said. Ellis used the commotion to escape out of the credit union and take off running down the street. He only made it a short distance away before being taken into custody.
Investigators later learned that the checks in Ellis’ possession had been stolen from a home.
The officer was not seriously injured.
