Cherokee Strip Credit Union converts to CU*BASE

Cherokee Strip Credit Union of Ponca City, Okla. has converted to the CU*BASE core processing system from CU*Answers, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based credit union service organization announced Wednesday.

The $69 million-asset Cherokee Strip Credit Union became the first Oklahoma-based credit union to join CU*Answers, the CUSO said in a statement.

Johnny O’Hare, CEO of Cherokee Strip CU, said the credit union has used the same legacy core platform for the last 27 years.

“Our move to CU*BASE was completed on time and was well-orchestrated by a team of professionals that essentially helped us re-imagine data delivery into a singular, comprehensive solution that is easy to understand for both associate and member,” O’Hare said. “We also have a new consistency in virtual touchpoints that provides more information to our members where and when they want it, along with greatly enhanced business continuity capabilities. For the first time, we also feel that we matter and have a voice at our data processor, and are confident that CU*BASE will continue to develop and grow along with us.”

Scott Collins, EVP of national sales at marketplace relations at CU*Answers, in the same statement welcomes Cherokee Strip into the fold and emphasized that the CUSO’s growth has come from not from just products and services but from “the participation and engagement of our customers and owns.”

Cherokee Strip earned more than $283,000 during the first three quarters of 2018, on the heels of more than $353,000 in net income during that same period last year.
