NEW YORK - (08/31/04) CUNA plans to dispense as manyas 15,000 free child identification and fingerprint kits duringthis weeks Republican National Convention as part of itsparticipation in the National Child Identification Program.We want to make sure that every child in America ofkindergarten age will have been fingerprinted and will have theability to be tracked and found, said CUNA President DanMica, during a reception at Montauk CU, marking the program. EdSmart, whose daughter Elizabeth Smart was found after a year-longabduction, said credit unions were a natural participant in thenationwide program because of their commitment to people.Ive been a member of a credit union since I was18, said Smart. The thing I know about a credit unionis I was always a person to them; I wasnt just anumber. Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., a father of three youngchildren, expressed his appreciation to both CUNA and the New Yorkcredit unions that are handing out the child I.D. kits.
