CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Warren FCU is hunting for a new site after yesterday’s announcement that Main Street Market is closing the only grocery store in nearby Wellington, Colo., and with it an in-store branch of the credit union.
The news left the $400-million credit union scrambling for a new site to serve its Colorado members, which it put at a “few thousand.”
The credit union has purchased land in adjacent Fort Collins, Colo., with plans to open a standalone branch here, but no timeline has been set for its opening, said Michael Nagl, the credit union’s vice president for the Colorado market. Closure of the town’s only supermarket is expected to force local residents to shop at stores in Fort Collins.
Warren FCU serves 40,000 members at Warren Air Force Base and residents in the surrounding Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyo., areas.
