WASHINGTON-The CU Cherry Blossom Run drew record crowds April 5-with some reports putting the number of runners at close to 15,000-raising about $1 million for the Children's Miracle Network.
Sarah Turner, one of the credit union organizers for the event, said donations are still being collected through the end of the month, so the fundraising numbers are only preliminary at this time.
But if the number of runners is any indication, the economy didn't put a damper on the fundraiser, which raised $1,016,000 last year. Of the nearly 15,000 runners, more than 6,000 of them were CU members.
Some 600 volunteers from 50 credit unions and CU organizations were on hand to help with the race.
