DTFCU Keeps Dallas Beautiful

DALLAS-Dallas Telco employees helped clean up downtown during EarthFest 2001 Clean-Up. "With businesses in downtown Dallas working hard to improve the area, we feel it is important to be involved in such a positive movement. As part of the downtown Dallas business community we are proud to take part in the exciting things occurring in this area," said Dallas Telco President Bert Beal.

Alaska USA Begins Construction

ANCHORAGE, Alaska-Alaska USA Federal Credit Union began construction of its new Eagle River branch. The 6,700-square-foot building will be bordered by parking and landscaping. Construction is scheduled for completion in October.

In additional news, Alaska USA has added 166,000 potential new members who are residents of three low-income areas: Fairbanks North Star Borough, the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and the Matanuska- Susitna Borough.

GCFCU Helps Habitat For Humanity

GEISMAR, La.-Geismar Complex Federal Credit Union is participating in Habitat for Humanity's new project in Ascension Parish. Geismar Complex donated $2,500 to the program.

Maine CUs Praised For Efforts

WESTBROOK, Maine-The Maine Credit Union League honored the following credit unions with the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Awards: Great Falls Regional FCU of Lewiston, Community CU of Lewiston, La Vallee FCU of Madawaska, Katahdin FCU of Millinocket, Greater Portland Municipal CU of South Portland, BIW Five County CU of Bath, Oxford FCU of Mexico, St. Joseph's CU of Biddeford, University CU of Orono, and Atlantic Regional FCU of Brunswick.

The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action honorees are: Community CU of Lewiston, BIW Five County CU of Bath, La Vallee FCU of Madawaska, and NorState FCU of Madawaska.

SFCU Honored By MD Association

MEDFORD, N.Y.-Suffolk Federal Credit Union was honored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. "For five consecutive years our employees and members have gladly participated in the Muscular Dystrophy's annual shamrock sale. This year they raised over $6,500," said Suffolk FCU CEO Edward Boughal.

FSCU Donate $4,500 To Charity

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-First South Credit Union employees and staff donated more than $4,500 to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Activities for fundraising included selling stars and links for $1 to members, selling lunch for $5 a plate, and silent auctions.

The credit union also hosted its 12th annual Golf Scramble which benefited the Navy and Marine Relief Association.

In additional news, First South CU received a Gold VOX Award in the category of print media.

T&C Holds Workshop For Students

PONTIAC, Mich.-T&C Federal Credit Union held a College Financial Preparation Day for high school graduates to help teach them to write checks, balance an account and use a debit card.

Credit Union One Helps Clean Up

FERNDALE, Mich.-Credit Union ONE participated in cleaning up and beautifying the playgrounds of the Poverty and Social Reform Institute. Volunteers planted flowers, trimmed trees and painted playground equipment.

TRFCU Hosts Evening With Bacino

FORT WAYNE, N.J.-Three Rivers Federal Credit Union hosted an evening event with NCUA board member Geoff Bacino, who discussed his vision for credit unions and the future of the NCUA.

BTCU Honors 5 Employees

ST. JOSEPH, Mich.-Berrien Teachers Credit Union honored five long-time employees at the credit union's President's Dinner. Honored were: Char Cundiff, Lynn Warner, Connie Shindeldecker, Mary Unruh, and Donna Lippert.

SJFCU Awards 11 Scholarships

DEPTFORD, N.J.-South Jersey Federal Credit Union awarded 11 teenagers with college scholarships. A $500 scholarship was awarded to Kelechi Acholonu. The following students received $250 scholarships: William W. Sleeth, III; Mia Searles, Kimberly Raco, Jessica Tussey, Sarah Brittany Simon, Tamara Smith, LeQuay Ross, Heather Britt, Elisa Read and Precious Diggs.

Evergreen CU Celebrates 50 Years

WESTBROOK, Maine-Evergreen Credit Union celebrated its 50th anniversary. The credit union also held a branch opening at its new Naples branch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

SAFE CU Helps Educate Youth

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-SAFE Credit Union sponsored a series called "Money Moves Jr." which recently won a regional Emmy Award. The film focuses on financial literacy for young people and received major funding from SAFE.

NCSEFCU Receives 5-Star Rating

CASPER, Wyo.-The Natrona County School Employees Federal Credit Union received a Five-Star Superior Rating from Bauerfinancial Reports, Inc.

AAFCU Raises $9,225 For Cancer

DALEVILLE, Ala.-Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union raised $9,225 in the Relay for Life campaign against Cancer. The top fundraisers were Ozark North Teller DeLana Woodward, Loan/Records Clerk Courtney Price, and Dothan West, Loan Processor Charlotte Ward.

CBCFCU Participates In Parade

ALVIN, Texas-Chocolate Bayou Community Federal Credit Union participated in the Frontier Day Parade. The credit union's float handed out balloons, threw candy, magnets and bead necklaces to thousands of spectators.

The credit union also recently launched a Kid's Club.

Wisconsin Achieves Accreditation

ARLINGTON, Va.-The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors' (NASCUS) board announced that the Office of Credit Unions of the State of Wisconsin has achieved accreditation. "Accreditation speaks highly of the Wisconsin agency. It shows that the agency is a quality regulator and has a responsible operation developed," stated NASCUS VP of Government Relations and Accreditation Mary Martha Fortney.
