CFEFCU Participate In Bowl-A-Thon

ORLANDO-Central Florida Educators Federal Credit Union participated in Junior Achievement's Annual Bowl-A-Thon, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse. Seventy-six CFEFCU employees, family members and their friends registered to support the Bowl-A-Thon and raised more than $2,200 for Junior Achievement.

NCCU Sponsors Students Club

NOVI, Mich.-Novi Community Credit Union teamed up with a group of high school students on projects for Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Nine students won the statewide DECA competition which qualified them to compete at the national level.

Congressman Weldon Visits CECU

ROCKLEDGE, Fla.-U. S. Rep. Dave Weldon visited Community Educators Credit Union and spoke to 80 employees at their weekly training-information session. The congressman's remarks covered a wide spectrum, including gasoline pricing and politics in general in Washington, D.C.

Neb. CUs Raise $5,000 For Kids

OMAHA, Neb.-The Nebraska CU League hosted its annual Bid-For-Kids Charity Auction benefiting Credit Unions For Kids. The auction raised more than $5,000.

FFFCU Wins Health Council Award

LUTHERVILLE, Md.-First Financial Federal Credit Union has been named the recipient of the Maryland State School Health Council Program Award for their Kids First Fund Health Care Services donation of $50,000 to help students in need of health care services.

Conn. CUs Sponsor DARE Car

MERIDEN, Conn.-Connecticut Commissioner of Public Safety, Dr. Henry Lee, joined the Connecticut Credit Union Association at the State Police Academy here and unveiled the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) car. The car, which was seized from a drug dealer, and has the DARE Program slogan emblazoned on it along with the words "Seized From a Drug Dealer," will be used for spreading their messages by visiting credit unions and taking part in parades and other events throughout Connecticut and New England.

RCU Raises Money For Food Bank

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.-RCU helped raise more than $450 and 800 lbs. of non-perishable food to support the Feed My People Food Bank.

In additional news, RCU paid more than $16-million in dividends to members in 1999.

ECCU Hosts Spring Planting Party

PORTLAND, Ore.-Electra Cental Credit Union hosted the 8th annual Spring Planting Party for the Annie Ross House for the homeless. Volunteers and friends brightened up the shelter by landscaping and planting flowers. The event also had a plant sales and silent auction to raise funds to support the shelter.

USA FCU Earns 5-Star Rating

TROY, Mich.-USA Federal Credit Union has earned a 5-star rating from Bauer Financial Reports for the 19th consecutive period. USA Federal has maintained a capital to assets ratio of 11.78%, while growing assets at an average rate of 12.7% over the past three years.

USA FCU also hit a milestone in March, surpassing the $400 million mark in assets.

Sen. Kennedy Supports ICU Efforts

BOSTON-The Industrial Credit Union awarded eight students $1,000 scholarships for college. The entries were drawn by Sen. Edward Kennedy, who commented, "I commend the Industrial Credit Union for its impressive commitment to make college more affordable for these students."

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.-Vista Federal Credit Union's annual report won top honors at CUES Golden Mirror Awards.

SACU Named A Top CU Lender

SAN ANTONIO, Texas-San Antonio Federal Credit Union was named one of the top 50 credit union mortgage originators in the nation, according to year-end financial results from the NCUA.

Manager Honored At BPFCU

BUFFALO, N.Y.-Buffalo Police Federal Credit Union, Buffalo Police Commissioner Rocco Diina and dozens of police officers honored Betty Lou Young, treasurer-manager, who is in her 59th year of service at BPFCU. At the gathering Dinna said, "She's a wonderful lady who has seen it all, and she's certainly a big part of the Buffalo Police Department in offering officers guidance."

CECU Funds Ten Scholarships

ROCKLEDGE, Fla.-Community Educators Credit Union has funded 10 high school seniors to attend Brevard Community College. CECU has awarded a student from each school based on the recommendation of the principal.

Kansas CU Association Moves

WICHITA, Kansas-The Kansas Credit Union Association moved its office to 560 S. Westdale, Suite 100, Wichita, 67209-2570.

Texans CU Sponsors Festival

RICHARDSON, Texas-Texans Credit Union was a platinum sponsor of the 2000 Richardson Wildflower Arts and Music Festival. In addition to monetary support, Texans provided 150 volunteers and two ATM machines.

TACCU Host Delegate From Bosnia

SYLVANIA, Ohio-Toledo Area Catholic Credit Union hosted a member of a Bosnia delegation. The CU showed Nusreta Pidro, who works for a financial institution in Bosnia, how a credit union operates. Human resource manager Janelle Sandlin was quoted as saying it was a great experience for both Nusreta and the employees of TACCU.

Meriwest Volunteers Help Needy

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Twenty-five Meriwest Credit Union employees participated in the nationwide Christmas in April program by providing renovations to a home in Mountain View. The volunteers replaced steps, repaired bathroom faucets, toilet, shower and a kitchen disposal, replaced carpets, repaired the roof, painted and landscaped the home of a disabled woman.

Maryland CU Awards Scholarships

LUTHERVILLE, Md.-First Financial of Maryland FCU awarded $25,000 in scholarships to five graduating high school seniors. Criteria for the award included academic achievement, community involvement, school activity, financial need, and membership in the credit union.

Tidewater Chapter Has Website

LYNCHBURG, Va., The Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Credit Union League introduced its web page at www.vcultidewaterchapter.com. The Tidewater Chapter is comprised of 54 credit unions located throughout southeast Virginia and it is the first league chapter in Virginia to offer a website.

CU Changes Name To FORUM CU

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-Indiana Telco CU recently changed its name to FORUM Credit Union. CEO Gary Irvin said the change was made because "of a much greater diversity in the credit union's membership. Today, with over 1,000 SEGs, telephone employees still represent a very important part, but a much smaller percentage of out total membership."

CFCU Opens New Lending Office

SANTA ROSA, Calif.-Community First Credit Union held a grand opening for its new lending office in Petaluma at East Washington St. The event included security fingerprinting for children, a clown, hot dogs and sodas.
