CUs Celebrate International CU Day!
* ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-As part of the celebration of International CU Week, The Credit Union Association of New Mexico coordinated visits to more than 60 elementary school classrooms across the state for credit union employees to teach basic saving and budgeting skills.
* EVERGREEN PARK, Ill.-Throughout International CU Day, South Division Credit Union encouraged members to sign a Linked Hands support card and contribute funds to the relief effort for Gulf Coast hurricane victims.
* LATHAM, N.Y.-The New York State CUL helped bring awareness of the credit union difference to local media and legislators with its "celebrate the sweetness of credit union day" initiative.
* BELOIT, Wis.-First American CU offered donuts, cookies, coffee and special rates on CDs just for stopping in on International Credit Union Day. The credit union also held a week-long Coats for Kids drive.
* BOISE, Idaho-Gov. Dirk Kempthorne declared Oct. 20 to be Credit Union Day in Idaho.
* HERSHEY, Penn.-Hershey FCU held an open house at its Cleona Square Shopping Center branch, which included contests, prizes and food.
* BOISE, Idaho-The North Idaho Chapter of the Idaho CUL teamed up for a Morning Donut Run and held its Annual Dinner and Auction to celebrate International CU Day.
* NEWARK, Ohio-Fiberglas FCU promoted the importance of member privacy with a raffle to win shredders and also held a luncheon in celebration of International CU Day.
* DULUTH, Ga.-Georgia credit unions aired 3,000 radio spots to raise awareness of the value of credit union membership.
* GREENVILLE, S.C.-Greenville Mayor Knox White proclaimed the celebration of National Credit Union Week, and Community 1st FCU had refreshments, giveaways and product promotions for all visitors.
* SPOKANE, Wash.-Numerica Credit Union displayed member-focus posters that contain photos and short stories of members that make a difference, in the lobby of its 14 branches.
* READING, Penn.-CTCE Federal Credit Union hosted an ID Theft seminar, a blood drive, a luncheon for member companies, a bake sale and free hot dogs for members.
* FENTON, Mo.-Alliance CU celebrated with a special giveaway and a member appreciation gift.
* BELLINGHAM, Wash.-Industrial Credit Union hosted its 11th Annual ICU Community Food Drive, which raised more than 150,000 lbs. of food for Whatcom County food banks.
* HIGH POINT, N.C.-North State Telco Credit Union held a food drive in conjunction with International CU Day and donated more than 1,000 lbs. to a local food pantry.
* DOWNEY, Calif.-Financial Partners CU received a proclamation from the city of Downey officially recognizing International CU Day.
* BEL AIR, Md.-Freedom Federal Credit Union offered refreshments, giveaways, free financial education literature and held drawings at each of its branches in Harford County.
* WESTBROOK, Maine-A barn-storming tour of interviews on radio stations throughout the state and pull-out supplements in seven daily newspapers highlighted a record-breaking week of media coverage for Maine's credit unions during Credit Union Week.
* DUBLIN, Ohio-During International Credit Union Week, The Western Buckeye Chapter of the Ohio Credit Union System hosted a blood drive at the American Red Cross. Maverick Media provided a live action broadcast and a Support Our Troop greeting card banner with a phone card for every signature sent overseas to U.S. troops. Wal-Mart donated for the effort for the troops, and people could also donate phone cards or money towards additional phone cards.
* CLEVELAND, Ohio-Decorations, refreshments and contests were enjoyed at Greater Cleveland Fire Fighter Credit Union. GCFFCU joined other Ohio CUs for month-long food drive to benefit the Cleveland Foodbank.
* NORTHFIELD, N.J.-Jersey Shore FCU invited members, their families and friends to stop by and celebrate International CU Day.
