LANCASTER, Penn. – A pistol-wielding man who allegedly robbed Bucks First FCU last October of $580 this week was charged with being the so-called “Mummy Bandit,” responsible for five area heists.
Christopher LaRue, 29, was tracked across two counties after the Oct. 22 hold-up at PNC Bank in Lansdale, when an alert teller inserted a GPS device inside a bundle with $1,500 of cash. Montgomery Township police tracked LaRue to an area near the Five Points intersection, where he threw the tracking device out the window and led authorities on a high-speed chase that ended with his arrest in the Valley View Mobile Home Park in Plumstead.
Police nicknamed the robber the Mummy Bandit after a Sept. 26 robbery at Fulton Bank on Doylstown, when the robber wrapped white gauze around his head as a disguise.
LaRue also was charged with an Oct. 2 robbery at Abington Savings Bank in Horsham and an Oct. 15 hold-up of Sovereign Bank in Doylestown.
