Aaron Passman has been named editor of Credit Union Journal, effective Sept. 24.

Aaron Passman is editor of Credit Union Journal

He succeeds Lisa Freeman, who spent more than 20 years with CU Journal, including serving since 2014 as editor in chief.

“It’s an understatement to say that I’ve got some big shoes to fill,” said Passman, who spent nearly five years as a reporter at CU Journal and was appointed assistant managing editor in 2016. “Lisa knows this industry inside and out. She joined shortly before the Credit Union Membership Access Act was signed into law and has had a front-row seat to countless changes across the field. I’m lucky to have been mentored by her and others at this publication, and it’s a privilege to follow in her footsteps.”

Freeman left CU Journal to pursue two passions – writing a novel and teaching taekwondo.

With Passman moving up to editor, Jackie Stewart has been named managing editor. A veteran financial journalist, Stewart has nearly a decade of experience covering the banking industry as a reporter and editor.

“The names on the masthead have changed, but our commitment to being the movement’s go-to news resource has not,” said Passman. “Readers should continue to expect the same high-quality news and analysis Credit Union Journal has provided for more than 20 years.”
