FERNDALE, Mich. Credit Union One said it signed an agreement with the Consulate of Mexico in Detroit to provide financial literacy education to the Hispanic community centered in the southwest side of the city.
The partnership formalizes an ongoing collaboration between the credit union and the local Hispanic community, Credit Union ONE said, noting it accepts the Consulate’s Matricula Consular de Mexico card for account opening.
“Mexican citizens who have strong family ties to the community regularly move between the U.S. and Mexico to follow work,” said Gary Moody, president of the $800-million credit union. “It is critical they understand how to establish account relationships to make deposits, save, budget, and in many cases move funds to relatives in Mexico.”
