WICHITA, Kan. – Credit unions again appear to have largely dodged damage from severe weather, in this case the latest tornadoes that ravaged wide swaths of the Midwest over the weekend.
State leagues in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma told Credit Union Journal that none of their member CUs had reported any storm-related damages. “Where the tornadoes did touch down, we don’t have many credit unions on that side of the state,” said Emily Caropreso, director of communications and marketing for the Iowa league.
Grant Weiland, administrative coordinator for the Oklahoma league, said league staff made calls to check on damage, but none was reported. He noted that Woodward, Okla., which sustained much of the damage in the state, does not have any credit unions.
The degree to which members were affected in these states is still being assessed.
