Miriam Neal, VP-information systems for South Western FCU, La Habra, Calif., was quoted in a piece in The Wall Street Journal on risks from smart phones to financial institutions. Such phones allow members to conduct mobile financial transactions, but also run the risk of being infected by malware that allows hackers to review histories and text messages. Neal told the Journal SWFCU is committed to protecting member data, and was quoted saying, “We need to protect the privacy of our members.”
The Baltimore-based Examiner included input from Michael Gordy, VP-lending with SECU, Baltimore, in a story on how rising fuel and food costs are affecting consumers. “People are tending to be a little more cautious in their spending,” Gordy was quoted as saying. “The volume in the transactions hasn’t been as great as it has been in the past.”
Credit card usage has increased as high costs force consumers to live “paycheck to paycheck,” Gordy added.'
USA Today featured BizKid$, a television program underwritten by the National Credit Union Foundation, in a story about programs that teach kids about money. Rebecca Charbonneau, a member of Kitsap Credit Union in Bremerton, Wash., was featured in the story. Charbonneau appeared in an episode of BizKid$.
WBDJ, channel 7 in Roanoke, Va., featured a report on Member One Credit Union’s student branch in William Fleming High School.
