MADISON, Wis.-The Filene Research Institute has released a new report that urges CUs to engage members through tablet and smartphone apps and to stay abreast of those devices' adoptions.
The study, "There is an App for That: Engaging Members through Tablet and Smartphone Applications," examines financial apps for mobile devices currently in the marketplace, key players, and how customization of apps change employee and member behavior? The study asks if it js worth customizing an app or is it better to go with a standard template, and what a few app prototypes look like for the financial sector?
In releasing the report Filene noted the number of tablet users is projected to hit 154.5 million by 2016.
The study recommends CUs looking for mobile apps opportunities think about solving the issue of potential members and new members by focusing less on their websites and more on their apps. It also recommended that an app should not be viewed as a mobile banking app, but rather as a branded app for the credit union.
