HAVERHILL, Mass. – A handful of Northeast Community CU’s 10,000 members, just 78, voted overwhelmingly last night to merge the $110 million credit union into nearby Haverhill Bank. The vote was 77-to-1 at a special meeting held at the credit union’s downtown offices. The depositors of $130 million Haverhill Bank will vote on the deal next week. The vote came after a 20 minute presentation by management over the benefits of the deal for members.
