CU Support Returns To Pennsylvania's Holden

Credit unions have switched their support back to Rep. Tim Holden (D-PA) in the race for the state's 17th District this year. The six-term incumbent is expected to win reelection, even though his opponent, Scott Paterno, is son of the legendary Penn State University football coach Joe Paterno, and was the beneficiary of a recent visit to the region by President Bush.

Though Holden has always been a strong credit union supporter, credit unions were forced by congressional redistricting in the last elections to throw their support behind his opponent, Rep. George Gekas, who was the chief sponsor of the credit union-back bankruptcy reform bill. After Gekases narrow defeat by Holden credit unions have returned to the Holden camp.
