CUNA has published a 16-page booklet it is calling "Straight Talk" that the group says is aimed at answering "misstatements, innuendo and outright fallacies about credit unions."

The booklet is in part a response to a similar booklet published by the American Bankers Association (ABA) called "The Morphing of Credit Unions" (CU Journal, Aug. 9). The ABA book has been distributed in Washington and to numerous media outlets across the country.

CUNA will be distributing a limited number of the booklets on Capitol Hill this week, with plans to distribute up to 5,000 copies during Hike the Hill month in September. It has also been distributed to selected members of the press. The "Straight Talk" booklet is also available on CUNA's website (in the "Bank Attacks" section) for CUNA-member credit unions and leagues to download. Leagues may also reproduce the booklet, incorporating information specific to their states and banker attacks there, for distribution to their members and others locally.
