WASHINGTON – CUNA said its political action committee raised $210,000 last month, helping push its cash on hand over $1 million, one of its highest ever, as campaign season starts to heat up.
The credit union PAC made $140,000 in campaign contributions last month. Among the most noteworthy were: $2,500 to AmeriPac, the leadership PAC for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer; $5,000 to the Committee For Hispanic Causes/Building Our Leadership Diversity PAC; $5,000 to the Congressional Black Caucus PAC; and, $2,500 to Victory Now PAC, the leadership PAC for Democratic Congressional Campaign Chairman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland.
CUNA also contributed the legal maximum of $10,000 to Delaware Rep. Michael Castle, who is running for the Senate; and $10,000 to Democrat John Carney, who is running for Castle’s seat. Federal election laws allow a PAC to contribute up to $5,000 to each candidate for a primary and another $5,000 for the general election. PACs are allowed to contribute the $10,000 maximum even before the primary.
CUNA also contributed $5,000 to Brett Guthrie, a Republican state senator running for a Kentucky Senate seat; $5,000 to Republican Gov. John Hoeven of North Dakota who is running for the Senate.
