WASHINGTON – CUNA opened the spigots on its political action committee last month, contributing $105,000 to conduits of both the Democrat and Republican parties.
Last month’s contributions included annual donations of $15,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Republican National Committee, National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
CUNA also made $5,000 donations to a variety of so-called leadership PACs that will benefit both parties: to the Southern California Fund; Blue Dog PAC, for conservative Democrats; the New Democrat Coalition, all for Democrats; and, the Senate Conservative Fund; the House Conservatives Fund; the Tuesday Group; and, the Republican Mainstreet Partnership PAC, all for Republicans.
During the past 13 months CUNA has contributed more than $300,000 to the various official and non-official party conduits.
CUNA also made a $5,000 contribution last month to Democrat Martha Coakley, the losing candidate in the special Senate election in Massachusetts.
CUNA made a total of $167,000 in campaign contributions last month, leaving it with $920,000 in cash on hand as the election season begins to heat up.
