CUNA Creates Community CU Committee To Replace NACCU

In the wake of a vote by the board of the National Association of Community CUs to dissolve the group itself, CUNA has created the Community CU Committee to fill the void, even as the NACCU membership are still voting on its dissolution.

The purpose of the CUNA Community Credit Union Committee is "to support and service community credit unions and credit unions considering a community charter through representation of community credit unions' unique legal, legislative, and regulatory needs; and education, resources, and information."

The nine-member committee - four of whom have served on the NACCU board - will report to the CUNA Board of Directors, and includes: chairman, Fred Healey, CEO of Workers CU; vice chair, John Sackett, board chair of Royal CU; David Adcock, CEO of Americas First FCU; Joe Duran, CEO of Community Trust CU in Modesto, Calif.; Roger Heacock, CEO of Black Hills FCU; Lee MacMinn, president and CEO of Freedom CU in Philadelphia; Bill Nikolauk, president of 1st Community FCU; Gene Roberts, CEO of Financial 21 Community CU; Rob Stuart, CEO of OnPoint Community CU.

CUNA will offer an annual community credit union conference, similar in scope and purpose to NACCU's conference and will continue the tradition of the Community Credit Union of the Year Award.

Ballots on NACCU's dissolution have been sent to members, and the vote was still ongoing at press time.
