CUNA Debuts New Survey On Examination Process

MADISON, Wis. — CUNA today has released a new survey aiming to get a better understanding from credit unions of what does and does not work about the exam process.

Speaking during CUNA's weekly teleconference Tuesday morning, Chief Economist Bill Hampel noted that the exam survey is similar to one the association conducted last year, but with a few changes, such as questions about the new remittance transfer rule.

This year's survey also includes a new section allowing CUs the option of ranking individual examiners by name, as well as providing an overall ranking to the exam team.

"We had a 32% response rate to the survey last year, which means credit unions are interested in reporting and letting someone know about their exam experiences," said Hampel. "Last year we had several positive and not-so-positive responses to exams" that CUNA was able to collect and anonymously pass on to NCUA and state league supervisors.

Hampel stressed that the surveys "provide an anonymous, confidential, unbiased way for credit unions to report on something that's very important to them."

"We can consolidate the results, never identifying individual credit unions, and pass those results on to those responsible for conducting the exams," he said.
