CUNA Hopes To Make Splash At Conventions

CUNA is making plans for the political party conventions later this summer. The credit union trade group, which has been expanding its political profile, has budgeted $200,000 to spend sponsoring events and other expenses at the Democratic Party convention in Boston next month, and the Republican Party convention in New York in September.

The funds will be spent on events commemorating CUNA's recently announced participation in a national children's identification program at both conventions, receptions for House Financial Services Committee Chairman Michael Oxley, R-Ohio, at the Republican convention, and a similar fete for the committee's leading Democrat, Barney Frank, D-Mass., at the Democratic convention, among other things, according to Richard Gose, political director for CUNA. "We've got a number of events planned," Gose said.
