WASHINGTON – CUNA continued to build its campaign war chest to new highs last month, even as it contributed tens of thousands to key Congressional figures.
Campaign contributions last month went to candidates in three of the key races this week: Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark. ($1,000) who will face a run-off next month for the Democratic nomination; Mark Critz, who won the Pennsylvania Democratic primary to succeed the late Jack Murtha ($5,000); and, Republican Rand Paul, who won his party’s nomination for the Senate ($5,000).
CUNA made contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. ($1,500), Sen. Bob Corker, R.-Tenn., who helped draft the bank bill ($1,000) and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., a participant in this week’s bank bill debate. CUNA also contributed $2,500 to Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak’s leadership PAC, known as BridgePac.
CUNA’s PAC raised $164,000 last month and spent $121,000, leaving it with almost $1.1 million of cash as the final months of the congressional election cycle begin.
