WASHINGTON -
The Credit Union Cup is presented annually to the Capitol Hill team that posts the best combined time in the "Capitol Hill Competition," the "race-within-the-race" of the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run. The Couch Potatoes posted a combined time of 3:25:03, best of all 31 teams, made up from more than 200 Capitol Hill racers.
The Capitol Hill Competition is sponsored jointly by CUNA, NAFCU and the two credit unions serving the Congress, Wright Patman Congressional FCU (on the House side), and United States Senate FCU.
Other top Senate finishing teams in the 2007 competition were "Run Wyden," from the office of Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), and "Team Frenzi," from the office of Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY).
Top House finishing teams in the 2007 competition were "Project Blue Hen," from the office of Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE), which was the top House finishing team), "Cubinistas," from the office of Rep. Barbara Cubin (R-WY), and "Mo-Mentum: Hinchey's All-Stars," from the office of Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY).
New Course Unveiled
For 2008, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run expands its field to 12,000 runners (from 10,000 in the 2007 event). Additionally, the race is being held on a new course, with start and finish on 15th St. adjacent to the Washington Monument grounds. Race organizers said the revised route will feature more cherry trees, with a three-mile circuit under a canopy of the legendary foliage in East Potomac Park, in addition to the traditional sections past the trees along the Tidal Basin, Independence Ave., and the Memorial Bridge crossing.
The sponsoring Credit Union Miracle Day Inc. said it is seeking to raise more than $1 million for the Children's Miracle Network in conjunction with the 2008 race. More than $828,000 was raised in conjunction with the 2007 event.
