CURIA Sponsorship Brings Campaign Cash To Lawmakers

WASHINGTON - CUNA continued to shower sponsors of its credit union bill with campaign contributions last month, paying out $55,000 to 25 of the 135 House sponsors of the legislation, known as the CU Regulatory Improvements Act.

The biggest contributions went to CURIA sponsors: Patrick Murphy (D-PA), $5,000; Randy Kuhl (R-NY), $5,000; John Culberson (R-TX), $4,000; Jon Porter (R-NV), $3,000; Diane Degette (D-CO), $3,000; and Kevin Brady and Kenny Marchant, both Texas Republicans, $2,500.

CUNA has contributed more than $200,000 to CURIA sponsors so far this year.

CUNA also made a $5,000 contribution to COLE PAC, a leadership PAC for Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, chairman of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee; and to TOM PAC, a leadership PAC for Rep. Tom Reynolds, the Republican from upstate New York and former chair of the congressional campaign committee.

CUNA also contributed $1,000 to Democrat Niki Tsongas, who won a special election last week for the House seat representing Lowell, Mass., where seven-term Rep. Martin Meehan is retiring.
