NEW ORLEANS – Officials with community development credit union ASI FCU and other credit union representatives unveiled the Clifford N. Rosenthal Community Resource Center in the St. Claude neighborhood of the Upper Ninth Ward, which is being rebuilt with credit union assistance after being ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
The center, named for the long-time director of the National Federation of CDCUs, center has been a project of ASI since Hurricane Katrina destroyed this New Orleans neighborhood. The credit union’s A Shared Initiative Inc. affiliate will lease the facility to other community service organizations and use the new community center to host homebuyer education classes and credit counseling sessions. The center will also eventually house an ASI branch.
A Shared Initiative is a non-profit affiliate organized by the CDCU to attract grants and other funding for the rehabilitation of the neighborhood.
The center was created with help from the National Federation of CDCUs, Deutsche Bank, Jewish Funds for Justice, NeighborWorks America, Solidago Foundation, Inc., The Ella West Freeman Foundation and other private donations.
