CUs Testify On Financial Ed Efforts

CUNA President Dan Mica stressed the importance credit union place upon financial education in remarks before the U.S. Treasury's Financial Listeracy and Education Commission last week. "CUNA and credit unions have both a traditional and historical commitment to developing greater financial interest among their members," Mica told the Commission meeting.

He cited as evidence credit unions' partnership with the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), CUNA's "Thrive by Five" free financial education materials for pre-K children, National Credit Union Youth Week and Youth Savings Challenge and outreach to the Hispanic community.

NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson is a member of the commission.
