Date, And Then Dish: FAA CU Enters Romance Biz

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-FAA Credit Union here is getting into the romance business.

One lucky and creative couple will win a night on the town later this year, courtesy of the $47-million FAACU, which is now accepting applications for its "Date Night Challenge." Through Feb. 7, members and the public are being asked to submit e-mails detailing why they and their "special someone" deserve a night out.

Four couples will be chosen from all entries received to compete head-to-head. They will go on a date with a budget of just $40, paid by FAA CU. Each couple will track the details of how they spent their $40 on a blog.

Katie Gillian, the credit union's senior marketing specialist, told Credit Union Journal information on the four finalists will be posted on FAA CU's Facebook page [www.facebook.com/faacreditunion]. Online voting will take place from March 7 through 11. The winning couple will receive $250 in cash.

"This is something a little bit different," Gillian said. "A lot of people know us as a stuffy financial institution, just like every other financial institution. This associates us with fun, and we hope to have more interaction on our social media sites, both Facebook and Twitter."

The only catch is the couples must spend their $40 dates in the Oklahoma City metro area and support non-franchised establishments.

"They have to support local businesses, not chains," Gillian said. "I'm a foodie so I want to support restaurants in the metro area and I want other people to do so."

FAA CU has more than 45,000 members.
