Defense CUs Meet, Lay Wreath At Soldier's Tomb

Credit unions that serve a primarily military field of membership held their annual Defense Issues mini-conference here. Among those addressing the Defense Credit Union Council meeting were NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson, Col. Michael Pachuta of the Department of Defense (DoD) who spoke on Personal Commercial Solicitation; Col. Marcus Beauregard, USAF (Ret.), DoD Financial Readiness Campaign Coordinator, who discussed the Predatory Lending reporting requirement imposed by Congress, and Dean Hunstad of the Navy's Financial Services Team and Major Tony Taylor of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management, who gave a joint briefing on the recently released Commander and Installation Banking and CU Liaison Officer's Guide.

During the meeting, George E. Myers Scholarships were awarded to Sheri Higa, VP with Tripler FCU in Hawaii, and Gaylene Hasert, branch manager at the Warren Air Force Base Branch of Warren FCU in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Following the educational sessions, attendees visited Arlington National Cemetery, where four members of the DCUC board-Ralph Story of VyStar CU, Jean Yokum of Langley FCU, Gordon Simmons of Service CU, and Billie Blanchard of Military and Civilian FCU - placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
