DEARBORN, Mich. – A 46-year-old man allegedly robbed a DFCU Financial branch Tuesday, then led police on a chase and crashed his truck into a house before firing a single shot at the officers who surrounded the vehicle.
No police officers were hurt and no one was in the house at the time of the crash, according to police.
The assailant wore a mask and carried a rifle during the 2:20 p.m. robbery at the credit union branch. He demanded money from employees and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A witness contacted police and employees of the public service department also saw the man and followed him as he fled to where his pick-up truck was parked. They continued to follow him as he drove away.
The suspect drove about a mile but then turned around and headed toward responding police officers. The suspect drove down several streets, reaching speeds of 60 to 70 mph before losing control and striking a home.
As officers surrounded the truck, the man fired a shot in their direction, police said. The man made a statement indicating that he intended to fire more shots, but his gun jammed.
