RACINE, Wis. – One of two men who accosted three Guardian CU employees arriving to work in May 2006 then made off with $128,8000, pleaded guilty to bank robbery charges last week after DNA evidence identified him one of the perpetrators.
Dedrick Flowers, 31, and his alleged accomplice, Deandre Blair, were arrested after a botched January 2007 attempt to rob Johnson Bank in Caledonia. The attempt failed when Blair fell as he went toward a teller who was entering the bank. The teller went inside and locked the door and Flowers and Blair ran away.
But the would-be robbers left footprints in the snow that police used to track them back to their hiding places. Blair was found in a brush pile and Flowers in a drain pipe. Flowers had to be treated for hypothermia when he came out.
DNA taken from Flowers subsequently tied him to the credit union heist.
The case against Blair is ongoing. His jury trial on the attempted bank robbery charge is currently set for March.
