Dollar: 'Don't Rest On Laurels'

NCUA Board Chairman Dennis Dollar told the Beaver Valley and Shenango Valley Chapters of the Pennsylvania Credit Union League that they shouldn't rest on their laurels.

"You are building a credit union movement for the next generation, not just this generation," stated Dollar. "Credit unions have a tendency to be proud of what we've done that they don't allow themselves to look at what we can become." He urged credit unions to move beyond "internal bickering," and asked, "What's wrong with consumers having a choice? There will be overlapping of credit unions, as well as with banks."

In remarks related to his Access Across America program, Dollar assured attendees that if a credit union wants to adopt an underserved area in its community, NCUA will help to make this happen, and noted that the agency now approves a CU to serve an underserved area providing it has a business plan in place in six to eight weeks.
