MISSOULA, Mont. – A man sentenced to federal prison for a 2009 armed robbery at Missoula FCU also will serve a state term for the same crime.
Peter Thompson was sentenced in federal court in November 2009 to eleven-and-a-half years in prison for assault on a police officer for the shootout that followed the robbery, then was sentenced this week in state court for bank robbery. Once Thompson serves his federal prison sentence, he will spend another five years in the Montana State Prison and then he will be on supervised release.
Thompson entered the credit union, fired a shot into the ceiling and then got away with about $11,000. He later used the same rifle in a shootout with the Missoula County Sheriff's Office.
Thompson's mother told the judge her son took the rifle and robbed the credit union after she had gone to work. The judge allowed the rifle to be returned back to Thompson mother.
