NORTH CANTON, Ohio - (10/21/04) -- ATM maker Diebold Inc. reportedWednesday that third quarter net income was flat $48.3 million, or68 cents a share, compared to last year's third quarter, despite an8% rise in income for the period, to $613 million. Detracting fromthird-quarter earnings were legal and other expenses the companyhas set aside for litigation in California over its electronicvoting machines. The company reported $110 million in orders forits new Opteva ATMs during the third quarter, and a 17% rise inincome from its security solutions unit. Through the first threequarters of the year, Diebold said revenues rose 14% to $1.7billion and net income increased 5% to $121 million, or $1.67 ashare.
